The Same Boat
Client:
Arts Council Funded Project with Soul City Arts, at St Wulfram's Church, Grantham
Year:
An Arts Council project produced to convey the Stations Of The Cross and the story of St Wulfram in the form of five engaging installations.
INSTALLATION ' SUFFERING".
GRANTHAM COLLEGE: LEVEL 3 ART AND DESIGN STUDENTS AGED 16-18
A new visual artistic interpretation running parallel with the other four installations. To convey the teachings of the Stations of the Cross, and the story of St Wulfram. Designed by local artist, Emma Chippendale and created as a collaborative project with the Level 3 Art and Design students from Grantham College.
As the students ages ranged from 16-18, with a strong design background this enabled the exploration and experimentation of non-traditional mediums such as spray paints, hand cut stencils, and graffiti stylised typography within the workshop. Expressions of suffering was conveyed through the vivid usage of colour, repetition, masking, layering text and exposure.
During the pandemic mankind was faced with an unprecedented amount of loss, pain and suffering that has never been seen within our generation. The inclusion of this within the installation echo’s the relevance and significance the words chosen by Father Stuart. That through our vulnerability and suffering we gather our courage to walk forward with hope, and a stronger sense of community and gratitude for life.

The Same Boat- A performance at St Wulfram's Church @stwulframsgrantham Are we really in the same boat?

‘The Same Boat’ is an artistic response to the life of St Wulfram, inspired by the ‘Stations Of The Cross’. It is seen through the lens of the COVID-19 pandemic. Invited long- term collaborator @cleveland_watkiss to create a musical sound-scape in response to the visuals, resulting in this short film.
